On Sunday evening, one of Italy's biggest derbies will take place at the Stadio Olimpico when struggling Roma meet title contenders Lazio.

Lazio are currently fourth in the table with 35 points after 18 games, having drawn 1-1 with current leaders Atalanta in their last game of 2024. The Biancocelesti have been rather inconsistent in recent months - they have won just two of their last five games, losing the other two and drawing one. The 6-0 defeat to Inter was the low point of the season for Lazio, which put their title hopes to bed for a while.

Roma go into this game in better form despite their lower position in the table, having gone three games unbeaten since mid-December. The Giallorossi have picked up four points from a possible six in their last two Serie A games - they scored five times in a 5-0 win over Parma and played out a 1-1 draw with AC Milan - leaving them in tenth place in the table, a full 15 points behind fierce rivals Lazio. Nevertheless, Roma have won their last four home games in all competitions.

Lazio have won just two of their last five games in Serie A, but their record in all competitions is much better, with just one defeat in six games and victories over Ajax in the Europa League and Napoli in the Coppa Italia. They have also won three of their last four away games in Serie A this season and have lost just once in their last four Rome derbies (2 W 1 D 1 L). 

No more than one goal in total was scored in the last four derbies in Rome. Three of those games ended in a 1-0 win for either team and one in a goalless draw, suggesting that there should be few goals this time too.
