The Emirates Cup will be on the line when Arsenal and Olympique Lyon go head to head in England on Sunday afternoon.

Having been touted by many at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, Arsenal went into last season hoping for revenge but it wasn't to be. The Gunners finished once again second behind Pep's Manchester City. Their supporters will argue that they were slightly better last season than the year before, as just two points separated them from the Citizens.

Lyon meanwhile have been a shadow of their former selves in recent seasons. The visitors finished 8th and 9th in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns respectively but they showed some improvement last season as they finished sixth.

Betting Tips Arsenal vs Lyon: Arsenal to win

Arsenal's pre-season campaign has not been impressive, with just two wins from four games but the Gunners will enter Sunday's game as favourites. Arteta's side beat Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen last time out 4-1 and their record against Lyon is also good.

Besides finishing sixth in Ligue 1 last season, Lyon reached the French Cup final before losing to Mbappe and Co (PSG). We've seen some great performances in their pre-season friendlies, most notably their 4-0 win over Union Berlin but I don't think they have what it takes to beat Arsenal in England.

  • Best Tip: Arsenal to win
  • Arsenal vs Lyon prediction: 2-1

After finding the back of the net against Leverkusen last time out, Gabriel Jesus will be hoping to lead the line ahead of Havertz, while captain Odegaard will be the man to watch in the middle of the park.
