- Venue: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan)
On Thursday evening, 19-times Scudetto winner AC Milan will welcome Rennes in the first leg game of the Europa League 1/16 Finals at Stadio San Siro in Milan.
AC Milan are coming off a bad last season, failing to win any trophies. This year, their best chance of winning the trophy is through the Europa League, as they are already eliminated from Coppa Italia and are eight points away from the 1st placed Inter in the league. Right now, they are 3rd in Serie A, but it looks like they will at least secure the top 4 spot. In the Champions League, they were super close to reaching the next phase in an incredibly tough group with Borussia Dortmund, PSG, and Newcastle, where they failed to make it to the knockout phase only due to worse h2h stats vs PSG. Even though Rossoneri had a few poor results this season, they have been playing well lately and are in good form.
Rennes were 4th in Ligue 1 in the previous two seasons, but this season, the Red and Blacks weren't as good. Still, lately, they have been one of the best teams in France, winning eight in a row. They reached the Coupe de France Quarter Finals and climbed in the league's table. Right now, they are 7th with 31 points, just four points away from the European spots and seven away from the Champions League spots. Even though they will face one of the stronger teams in the EL, this game comes at the right moment for Rennes, as they are in excellent form.
AC Milan vs Rennes pick: Over 2.5 goals
AC Milan are in good form, with seven wins in the last ten games in all competitions. Their offense has been good throughout the season, but their defense has had big problems lately. One of the main reasons for that is the injuries of a few players in the defensive line. Lately, in the last six games in all competitions, AC Milan allowed two or more goals on four occasions. Because of good offense and somewhat poor defensive display, Rossoneri were over 2.5 goals in seven of the last eight matches.
Rennes are in excellent form with eight wins in a row (one after penalties). Their offense has been great, scoring 20 goals, 2.5 per game. So, we feel confident in their ability to score against Milan, which haven't been great defensively lately.
Considering that both teams are in great form and have had excellent goalscoring displays, we strongly believe we will see a high-scoring game, most likely with both teams scoring.
AC Milan team news
The team's captain and the best right full-back, Davide Calabria suffered an injury in the previous game vs Napoli and had to leave the field after 37 minutes. He will most likely miss the upcoming game as well. Also, players who missed the previous games due to injuries should remain sidelined: Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Pierre Kalulu, Mattia Caldara, and Tommaso Pobega.
AFCON finished on February 11th, and Samuel Chukwueze should return to Italy on time for the Rennes game.

Rennes team news
One of the team's best midfielders, Enzo Le Fee, missed the previous game vs Le Havre due to a muscle injury he sustained on February 6th in the Cup against Sochaux. He will most likely be out until mid-March. Also, Fabian Rieder should remain sidelined with a foot injury.
After a 1:0 against Le Havre away from home, coach Julien Stephan spoke to the media. He was satisfied with a win, saying Le Havre often creates a lot of problems for their opponents. He praised the team's defensive spirit and also said they are winning games in different ways. "All in all, it's a very good process, but it's only mid-February," the coach added.
