On Sunday afternoon, Aalborg and Silkeborg will face off in the second round of the Danish Superliga at Aalborg Portland Park.

Aalborg experienced relegation in the 2022/23 season for the first time since 1986 but managed to return to the Superliga the following season after finishing second in the 1st Division. Although they were one of the top teams in Denmark several years ago, their main goal this year is to avoid relegation. Over the summer, Aalborg added several new players, mostly young and inexperienced ones, so it will be interesting to see if these changes will be enough to avoid playing in the Relegation Group by the end of the season. Based on their first game against Nordsjaelland, where they suffered a 3:0 defeat in the season opener, securing Championship Group could be a tough challenge for this young squad.

Silkeborg finished 6th in the Championship Group last year, but it was still a historic season for them as they won the Danish Cup, securing only the third major trophy in their 107-year history. Despite this success, their Europa League qualifiers got off to a rocky start with a 3:1 loss against Molde. On the positive side, they won the season's opener in the Superliga 1:0 against Sonderjyske and will look for a second win in the domestic league.

Aalborg vs Silkeborg pick: Over 2.5 goals

In the pre-season and Superliga combined, Aalborg were over 2.5 goals in three of four matches. Even when they were under 2.5 goals, against Hobro, we saw two goals (1:1). Additionally, last year, Aalborg were by far the best team in the 1st Division Promotion group for an over 2.5 goals bet as 75% of their games finished with three or more goals.

Silkeborg have been really good offensively in the pre-season and the official season as well, scoring at least one goal in six of seven games. So, we definitely expect at least one or two against Aalborg, which showed they aren't great defensively in their first game against Nordsjaelland. However, we do not trust them to keep a clean sheet, considering they did it just once in seven matches.

Historically, when these two teams face off, the games tend to be high-scoring. Seven of their last nine head-to-head encounters have ended with three or more goals, and in eight of those nine matches, both teams scored. Considering all the above, we expect a high-scoring game, most likely with both teams scoring.
